HMS Beagle Model Ship Project

HMS Beagle Model Ship Project

Research sources

Research sources for this project initially came from the books HMS Beagle - The Story of Darwin's Ship, by Keith S. Thomson, which I read several year ago, and the account of Darwin's voyage in Darwin's biography by Adrian Desmond and James Moore. Once I decided to go forward with the project I read Ship Building from Stem to Stern by Milton Roth, Historical Ship Models by Wolfram zu Mondfeld and Anatomy of the Ship HMS Beagle by Karl Heinz Marquardt (where I've gotten most of my measurement guides from).

Later I read Seamanship in the Age of Sail by John H. Harland, probably the best book there is on how these historical ships actually worked.

Online references include the blog "Making HMS Beagle" by Mike Bass and the Scale Sailboats forum at R/C Groups and the forum at Model Ship World.

To keep me in the mood I scored big over Christmas with novels about the Royal Navy by C. S. Forester, Alexander Kent, Dudley Pope and Patrick O'Brian. Thanks family!

After reading the first few books of each of these four series of novels, I've been slowly working my way through the rest.
